It seems that, for the last couple years in Northern Ireland, we have had some glorious sunny and warm days in the Spring and Autumn, but not necessarily during that bit in between, when the kids are off and going crazy. This, for me as a photographer in schools, has resulted in some great dry Spring days, with the bluest skies, and hazy autumn mornings, when the sun is low and the light is beautiful. It was on a warm April day last year that I visited St. Comgall's Primary School in Antrim, and managed to capture some happy kids against a bright blue sky. The atmosphere was almost that of the last week of June!
This was such a fun day, and the images just go to show that even if a school building may not be brand shiny and new or win any prizes for architecture, this really doesn't matter - look at the vibrancy of the spaces and the smiley faces (and the outdoor classroom!). I clicked over 700 times that day (normally I try to be conservative!) and managed with difficulty to edit the bank of images down to around 200 for the school (a school normally receives 100-200 images depending on pupil numbers and activities). It was really difficult to select just a handful to show you here...
I went on to produce 20mm capacity 'Record of Achievement' folders for the Primary 7 leavers, the school prospectus, an A4 document folder and a series of internal photographic wall boards (as well as various other small bits of stationary).
